Office Soundproofing Solutions in Oman
Reduce noise, protect confidential conversations and create a calmer working environment. BMTC assesses how sound is travelling through your office, specifies the right acoustic build-up, and installs acoustic walls, doors, glazing, ceilings and sealing details across Oman.
What Office Soundproofing Actually Involves
An honest explanation of what reduces noise between offices — and what does not.
Office soundproofing is the process of reducing the amount of sound that passes from one space into another — between meeting rooms, private offices, departments, floors and neighbouring tenants. It is a construction problem, not a decorative one. The result depends on mass, separation, sealing and how the building is put together.
It is different from acoustic treatment. Treatment controls how sound behaves inside a room by reducing echo and reverberation, which makes speech clearer and reduces fatigue. Treatment alone will not stop a confidential conversation being heard through a partition wall. Most offices need a combination of both.
Where office soundproofing is commonly specified
- Meeting rooms, boardrooms, training rooms and interview rooms
- HR, legal, finance and consultancy offices handling confidential discussions
- Executive offices and management suites
- Call centre and customer service floors
- Clinics, dental practices and medical consultation rooms
- Co-working floors, focus areas and phone booths
- Server and plant rooms where equipment noise affects adjacent workspaces
Why professional specification matters
Sound finds the weakest point in any construction. A heavy wall with an unsealed door frame will perform no better than the gap around the door. Because of this, adding more material in the wrong place rarely solves the problem — identifying the dominant noise path does. Our approach starts with the source and the route, then specifies the minimum intervention that will make a real difference to privacy, concentration and comfort.
Where acoustic work forms part of a wider refurbishment, it is planned alongside office fit-out services, office space planning and office renovation works so that disruption and cost are controlled together.
Office Soundproofing Options & Applications
Targeted acoustic measures for the specific noise problems found in modern offices
Meeting & Conference Room Soundproofing
Upgraded partitions, acoustic doors with perimeter and drop seals, laminated glazing and internal absorption so confidential discussions stay inside the room.
Demising & Partition Wall Upgrades
Additional mass, independent linings, resilient isolation and full perimeter sealing to reduce speech and equipment noise passing between departments or neighbouring units.
Acoustic Doors & Door Sealing
Heavier door leaves, acoustic frames, automatic drop-down seals, perimeter gaskets and threshold detailing — often the single most effective upgrade available.
Acoustic Glazing & Glass Partitions
Laminated acoustic glass, sealed frames and double-glazed build-ups that keep the open, light feel of a glass partition while improving separation.
Ceiling & Absorption Treatment
Acoustic ceiling tiles, baffles, rafts and wall absorbers that reduce echo, improve speech intelligibility and make open-plan floors calmer to work in.
Floor & Impact Noise Control
Acoustic underlays, resilient floor build-ups, carpet specification and detailing at thresholds and penetrations to reduce footfall and furniture noise transfer.
Duct & HVAC Cross-Talk Attenuation
Duct lining, attenuators, re-routing and separation of shared duct runs so air conditioning noise and speech do not travel between rooms.
Acoustic Pods & Focus Booths
Freestanding and built-in acoustic pods, phone booths and quiet rooms for calls and focused work, specified with internal absorption and sealed construction.
Materials Used in Office Acoustic Build-Ups
The components that do the actual work — and what each one is used for
Acoustic Mineral Wool
Dense mineral or rock wool slabs used inside partition cavities and ceiling voids. It absorbs sound energy within the build-up and reduces resonance rather than blocking sound on its own.
Acoustic Plasterboard
Higher-density plasterboard, often installed in multiple layers, used to add mass to a wall or ceiling lining. Mass is the primary defence against airborne noise.
Mass-Loaded Vinyl
A thin, flexible, high-density membrane added where extra weight is needed without significant build-up thickness — useful for retrofits and existing partitions.
Resilient Channels & Isolation Clips
Metal components that decouple the plasterboard lining from the structure, breaking the path along which vibration and impact noise would otherwise travel.
Acoustic Sealant & Door Seals
Non-hardening acoustic sealant for perimeters and penetrations, plus gaskets and automatic drop seals for doors. Sealing is usually the cheapest and most effective single measure.
Laminated Acoustic Glass
Glass with a sound-dampening interlayer, used in glass partitions and external windows where a standard monolithic pane would transmit too much noise.
PET Felt & Fabric Acoustic Panels
Absorptive panels for walls and ceilings. They control echo and reverberation inside a room and are available in colours and finishes that suit office interiors.
Perforated Wood & MDF Panels
Decorative absorptive panels with a perforated face and acoustic backing, used where a warmer, timber appearance is wanted in meeting rooms, reception or boardrooms.
Acoustic Underlay & Carpet
Resilient underlays and carpet specification used to reduce footfall noise and soften the acoustic environment of open-plan and circulation areas.
Why Businesses Choose BMTC for Office Acoustic Work in Oman
A practical, construction-led approach to office noise and privacy
Diagnosis Before Specification
We identify where sound is actually escaping — walls, doors, glazing, voids or ducts — before recommending any material.
Confidentiality & Speech Privacy
Meeting rooms, HR and legal spaces specified so that normal conversation is not intelligible outside the room.
Retrofit-Friendly Options
Where a full rebuild is not possible, we look at added mass, sealing, doors and absorption that can be installed into an occupied office.
Coordinated With Your Fit-Out
Acoustic works are sequenced with partitions, ceilings, MEP and joinery so they are built correctly the first time, not added afterwards.
Clear Scope Documentation
You receive a written scope listing the build-ups, materials and areas covered, so you know exactly what is being installed and why.
Planned Around Your Operations
Works are phased and scheduled with your facilities team so noisy activities are kept away from peak business hours where possible.

Office Soundproofing Across Oman
Based in Al Ghubrah, Muscat, and working with businesses throughout the Sultanate
Office acoustics in Muscat
Muscat's office stock is a mix of purpose-built commercial towers, converted villas and refurbished low-rise premises. Each behaves differently acoustically. A converted villa may have lightweight internal partitions and shared ceiling voids, while a commercial tower may have a demising wall that is only partly sealed. In Al Khuwair, Ruwi, Qurum, Bawshar and Ghubrah we regularly work on occupied offices where the priority is improving privacy without closing the business.
Working outside Muscat
For projects in Sohar, Sur, Nizwa, Salalah and Ibri, acoustic scope is agreed in advance and materials are scheduled to the programme so site time is used efficiently. Travel and access arrangements are confirmed at quotation stage. More detail on our office capability is available on our office interior design in Oman and commercial office interior design pages.

Office Soundproofing Frequently Asked Questions
Practical answers for businesses planning acoustic work in Oman. More general questions are answered on our FAQ page.
What is office soundproofing and how is it different from acoustic treatment?
Office soundproofing reduces the amount of sound travelling between spaces — through walls, floors, ceilings, doors, glazing and service penetrations. Acoustic treatment is different: it controls how sound behaves inside a room by reducing echo, which improves speech clarity and comfort but does not stop noise passing into the next room. Most office projects need both.
How do you decide what an office actually needs?
The starting point is a site assessment. We look at the construction of the separating walls, the type of glazing, door construction and sealing, ceiling voids, floor build-up and how ducts and cables pass between rooms. We also ask what the noise problem is — speech, traffic, plant equipment or impact noise — because each has a different solution.
Can an existing office be soundproofed without a full rebuild?
In many cases, yes. Adding mass, sealing gaps, upgrading doors and seals, introducing resilient layers and treating ceilings can all be carried out as a retrofit. Where a wall or partition has to be rebuilt to achieve a higher level of separation, this is usually planned alongside other fit-out works to limit disruption.
Where does sound usually leak in an office?
The most common paths are gaps rather than the wall itself — the perimeter of doors, unfilled service penetrations, socket back boxes, ceiling voids that continue over a partition, and lightweight glazing. Sealing and detailing these correctly often gives the biggest improvement for the least work.
Do you soundproof meeting rooms and conference rooms?
Yes. Meeting rooms, boardrooms, HR and legal offices, and training rooms are the most common requests because confidential speech must not be overheard. Typical measures include upgraded partitions, acoustic doors with perimeter and drop seals, laminated glazing, and absorption inside the room to reduce reverberation.
Can you reduce noise coming from the street or from neighbouring tenants?
It depends on the source and the building construction. Traffic and external noise usually requires improving the facade elements — glazing, frames and sealing. Noise from an adjoining tenant travels through the separating wall or floor and is addressed with added mass, decoupling and sealing. The site assessment identifies which route dominates.
What about noise travelling through air conditioning ducts?
Ductwork is a common and often overlooked path for cross-talk between offices. Options include lining or re-routing duct runs, fitting attenuators or silencers, and ensuring ductwork is not shared openly between rooms that need separation. This work is usually coordinated with the MEP services.
How much does office soundproofing cost in Oman?
Cost depends on the area to be treated, the existing construction, the level of separation required, the products specified and whether the work is a retrofit or part of a fit-out. There is no single rate per square metre that applies to every office. We provide a quotation after the site assessment so the scope is clear.
How long does an office soundproofing project take?
Timelines vary with the size of the area, the number of rooms involved, material availability and whether the office is occupied during the works. Smaller meeting room upgrades can be completed quickly, while multi-room projects are programmed in phases. A realistic programme is confirmed with the quotation.
Will the work disrupt our staff?
Where possible, works are phased around your operating hours and noisy activities are scheduled outside peak times. Some tasks, such as door replacement or ceiling access, are more disruptive than others and are planned in advance with your facilities team.
Do you work outside Muscat?
Yes. BMTC is based in Al Ghubrah, Muscat, and works across Oman, including Seeb, Al Khuwair, Ruwi, Bawshar, Qurum, Ghubrah, Sohar, Sur, Nizwa, Salalah and Ibri. Travel and site access are discussed at quotation stage.
Do you provide a site assessment before quoting?
Yes. A site assessment lets us see the construction, identify the noise paths and specify the right combination of measures. Contact BMTC by phone, WhatsApp or email to arrange an assessment for your office.
